Black and mixed skin:how to make them up?

Black and mixed skin:how to make them up? For a successful beauty treatment, a few very specific rules are essential. Angloma, Sisley make-up artist, gives us her tips and tricks to enhance black and mixed skin.

The beauty of black or mixed-race skin goes through several key stages, ranging from hydration to work on the complexion, including highlighting the eyes and mouth, with products adapted to these skin tones. Angloma, Sisley make-up artist, gives us her secrets for successful make-up.

Hydrate the skin well

For Angloma, good make-up results from good hydration. Dark skins often tend to dehydrate and secrete, to compensate, a lot of sebum. Hence an oily skin effect that is not always brilliant.

To combat this inconvenience, the make-up artist advises applying a purifying lotion for sensitive skin every morning. On the other hand, we avoid soap and astringent products that could attack the skin. We continue the morning ritual with a floral water - rose or orange blossom - which will instantly soothe the skin. Finally, to maintain hydration, opt for a serum with a non-greasy texture. Last step:the application of a mattifying cream that will unify without leaving a greasy film.

Highlight the face

On the complexion side, there are two scenarios:

Video of the day:
  • Blemish-free skin, on which you just need to work on light areas. We therefore focus on the shadow areas, which are much more numerous than on fair skin, using a concealer that will neutralize the complexion. We favor the eye contour or the underside of the bridge of the nose. Concealer also remains a good ally to unify the skin. We opt for a lighter shade to work the corners of the lips, dark circles, but also the brow bone to open the eyes.

  • A marked skin, on which we work in 3 dimensions by using a lighter foundation in the center of the face and a darker color on the exteriors and contours. In this way, we create relief as for the technique of contouring. Then, apply the concealer to the areas to be mattified. "You really have to visualize the face in three dimensions because otherwise you have a uniform solid color that removes any relief (...) because for the complexion, everything is a question of highlighting", specifies Angloma.

To give even more radiance to the face, apply a blush, which is chosen in coral or fuchsia shades.

Dare color on the eyes

When you have black skin, you can do anything in terms of shades. In terms of textures, Angloma strongly advises against the use of talc-based powder eye shadow:"It is a material that tends to whiten the skin and causes a lack of relief on black skin."

So to avoid any disappointment and illuminate the eyes, we opt either for an ultra-pigmented colored pencil, or for cream textures that will bring shine. We can then play on the contrasts between the chosen colors and the skin. As for the chromatic palette, golden brown, browns, coppery shades, chocolate notes or even emerald remain sure values because they will warm the skin while enhancing the look.

And what about black? Not even afraid ! We even force the line by using ultra-pigmented mascaras and eyeliners that will structure the top of the face and bring a graphic appearance. Last step not to be neglected, the work of the eyebrow which must remain full to enlarge the view.

For the mouth, it's all about balance

"To sublimate the mouth, you have to trust yourself by finding the right balance", says Angloma. A phrase that sounds almost like a mantra. We therefore follow his instructions and we do not hesitate to let go. If we are looking for intensity, we use wine, plum or even chocolate notes. And for more sophistication, taupes and beiges will be perfect for creating very subtle shades.
