Marula oil:the anti-aging ally for mature skin

A star ingredient in cosmetology, Marula oil is a precious oil with many benefits. To preserve the youthfulness and strength of skin, hair and nails, Marula oil is a true beauty elixir when used in the right way. Where does Marula oil come from? What are its virtues? How to use it ? Veld's tells you all about Marula oil.

Marula oil:what is it?

The Marula is a tree present in the forested regions of South Africa , as well as in the sub-Sahelian part of West Africa. This tree produces fruits with light yellow skin, the "marula plum", quite similar to the plums we know in Europe. It has always been consumed by African peoples, for its sweet taste and its quality nutritional intake.

Throughout the world, the marula plum is best known for its success with elephants:the marula is also nicknamed "the first elephant tree". Indeed, the latter are ready to travel thousands of kilometers to consume its fruits!

What makes Marula so interesting in the field of cosmetics is its core. Inside are two to three seeds, containing a large amount of oil with very interesting properties.Marula oil is particularly rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, antioxidants and oleic acid . Its exceptional chemical stability allows it to be kept for a very long time and to integrate perfectly into cosmetic treatments, without oxidizing.

Although this active ingredient is only beginning to find a place in Western cosmetics, African women, and especially Namibian women, have been using it for generations, whether in food or in their beauty routines.

The benefits of Marula oil on the skin

When the kernels of the Marula are cold pressed, a dry oil is obtained which has many benefits for the skin . You can use it as is, it applies easily to the skin without leaving a greasy film. You can also mix it with your cosmetics or opt for cosmetics that use it as the main active ingredient. Among the many benefits you can expect:

  • Hydration and nutrition:marula oil, used with water, becomes an emulsion very similar to the hydrolipidic film that naturally protects our skin, the skin is thus perfectly hydrated, nourished and strengthened;
  • Protection:its composition rich in fatty acids promotes the reconstruction of the cell membrane as well as that of the intercellular cement, the skin is therefore more resistant to attacks (UV, extreme temperatures, pollution);
  • Anti-aging:its concentration of vitamins C and E prevents the formation of free radicals, responsible for skin aging;
  • Antibacterial, restorative and soothing:it prevents the appearance of imperfections and heals small wounds and irritations. It restores softness and comfort to the skin.

Marula oil:for whom?

For mature skin :thanks to its concentration of antioxidants, Marula oil reduces the production of free radicals, thus preventing the signs of aging. Its strong moisturizing action makes it possible to plump up skin lacking in tone, to fill in the fine lines of dry skin. By preserving the natural hydration of the skin, it evens out the complexion and gives you a healthy glow.

For dry and sensitive skin :Marula oil, due to its soothing and healing properties, is ideal for sensitive skin. If you suffer from irritation, tightness, redness or tingling, it will calm the fire and deeply nourish the skin, while cleansing it with its anti-bacterial action. You will thus find a soft and comfortable skin every day.

For city cars :Marula oil is a perfect ingredient to strengthen the skin in depth. It is therefore particularly suitable for those who live or work in an "aggressive" environment:skin often exposed to the sun, or exposed to pollution. Indeed, with a composition close to the hydrolipidic film, it strengthens the skin barrier and helps the skin to defend itself against toxins and pollution particles. You develop fewer irritations and wrinkles, with healthier and more resistant skin.

Beautiful and strong hair and nails thanks to Marula oil

Applied to hair and skin, Marula oil deeply nourishes and protects both the hair fiber and the scalp. It strengthens the hair and creates a protective film against UV, against the heat of styling appliances (straighteners, curlers, hair dryers, etc.) or even against pollution. It is also a very good remedy to restore vigor to damaged hair , and to soothe irritated scalps.

If your scalp feels tight or itchy, you can massage Marula oil in with your fingertips, then leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing off with lukewarm water. Be careful not to repeat this action more than once a week, so as not to grease your roots.

If your ends are damaged, apply Marula oil to the ends, before wrapping your hair in a hot towel. Leave on for 20 minutes then rinse, to find soft and silky hair! Finally, if you have very curly or frizzy hair, Marula oil is ideal for taming frizz, redefining curls and having a silky finish .

A true multipurpose beauty tool, Marula oil will be a great help for those who have fragile and brittle nails. Apply it on each nail in a small massage, then leave on for 5 to 10 minutes. This little "mask" will solidify the nails and give them strength. To strengthen your nails on a daily basis, you can also mix a few drops of oil with your hand cream, this will help keep them in top shape!
