Choosing a new perfume

Many people have one or more favorite scents, but sometimes you need something new. How do you choose a new fragrance?

Perfume is something very personal. So let yourself be guided by your own senses. Use these tips to help you on your way.

Ask in store for advice. Based on scents you like, the store associate may be able to show you some other scents in that corner.

You can also choose to do some research yourself. What perfumes do you use now? Look up the ingredient lists. Are there ingredients that appear in several of your fragrances? And do you actually like floral, spicy, fruity or fresh?

Spray the perfume on your skin and never on a piece of paper to test it. Perfume mixes with the acidity of your skin and therefore the scent will be different for everyone.

Never buy the scent that you liked so much from someone else without testing it on your own skin. You can only smell three different scents in succession. Smell a few scents every time you're in town, until you find a nice one.

In any case, don't rush to buy. With most scents you only know what it really smells after an hour or more. So don't rush your debit card, but let the scent soak in first.

Not quite sure yet? Ask the perfumery for a sample. This way you can try the scent for a few days first.
