Trendy shoes for arch supports

Many people think that if you wear arch supports, you should just wear boring shoes. However, that is not true. With these tips you can now wear trendy shoes for arch supports.

Foot complaints a recognized problem

Many people walk around with complaints that are directly or indirectly related to foot complaints. Unfortunately, not all people with complaints go to the doctor for a referral. Yet this is very important:after all, you only have one pair of feet and foot complaints can cause a whole series of other complaints. Think of back complaints, knee complaints and even shoulder, neck and headache pain can be associated with the wrong position of the feet.

Foot complaints include many complaints ranging from abnormalities that arise after an accident or congenital defects. In some cases it is immediately clear that certain physical complaints are related to an abnormal position of the foot, sometimes you find out by chance. Frequently heard foot complaints include:abnormal position of the foot, heel spurs, hallux valgus, tired feet, joint pain and tendonitis.

Most of these problems can be solved by fitting orthotics or correction insoles. These are also known as insoles.

What are arch supports?

Insoles include insoles that are tailor-made for the wearer. This does not concern insoles that you can buy at the shoe store, such as sports soles. These soles are prescribed after a visit to the podiatrist or orthopedist. There are several reasons why someone may need an arch support. This can be to support the joints, ligaments and capsules of the foot or to correct the position of the foot.

If for any reason you need arch supports or correction soles, you will have to take this into account when purchasing new shoes.

Tips for finding trendy shoes for insoles

Just like when buying regular shoes, you should look for the following in the search for shoes suitable for soles:

  • What is your shoe size?
  • For which occasion are you looking for shoes?
  • Do the shoes offer sufficient support?
  • Does the shoe have a removable footbed?

What is your shoe size?

Of course you know your regular shoe size. But if you wear insoles, you should in most cases take a half to a full size larger, but that can also differ. So be sure to check out the size chart if you want to order shoes online. In a physical store you will probably have to try on two different sizes to see which one fits better.

For which occasion are you looking for shoes?

As with the purchase of 'normal' shoes, when purchasing shoes for insoles, you should especially look at the occasion for which they are suitable. Are you looking for sexy shoes for a night out? Then take a look around among the many nice pumps or sandals. Do you want more comfort for everyday use? Then sneakers are definitely recommended. Do you have to go outside in the winter? Then warm winter boots are indispensable.

Do the shoes offer sufficient support?

When choosing new shoes, you should take into account the extent to which the shoes provide support to your feet. It does not matter if you wear shoes that offer less support for a day or an evening, but on a daily basis it is always good to choose shoes that offer optimal support.

Good support means that the shoes are extra sturdy at the heels, so that there is good grip. In addition, it is also nice if the instep is optimally supported. Incidentally, the extent to which your feet need support can differ depending on the deviation of your foot or the problem for which you need insoles.

Does the shoe have a removable footbed?

Whether you are looking for a pair of new sneakers, sexy heels or, for example, nice sandals for the summer, it is important that the shoes have a removable footbed. Almost all shoes with a removable footbed are suitable for insoles. Because the footbed is removable, there is room to place your own footbed or rather your arch supports in the shoes.

Custom made shoes with integrated soles

It is also possible to buy custom-made shoes where the soles are already integrated. You can order these shoes through the podiatrist or special shoemakers. Keep in mind that these shoes are very pricey and the choice is often limited.

Tips for a long life for your insoles

Insoles are not cheap to buy. That's not surprising, because the insoles are made especially for you on the basis of a print. On average, you pay around 200 euros for a pair of insoles, including 2 consultations with the podiatrist. In principle, you should come for an annual checkup (costs around 50 euros) to see if you need new insoles. Arch supports are normally replaced every two years.

Do you want to extend the life of your insoles? Then you can apply the tips below:

  • Always remove the original footbed and put your orthotics in its place
  • Insoles require no special maintenance. It is important to let the insoles ventilate well. You do this by removing the arch supports from the shoes every day and letting them ventilate
  • If you wear soles, it can happen that they start to crack. You can solve this quickly and easily by sprinkling talcum powder under the arch supports
  • If you have new insoles, keep the old insoles in reserve. If the new insoles do not fit so well, you can wear the old insoles until you can go to the podiatrist or orthopedist
  • Make sure your insoles never get wet!

My experience with arch support shoes

I already wrote an article about it once, but I myself wear insoles every day. Through a very long detour I found out that the pains in my joints (knee, legs, feet), but even more my migraine, shoulder and neck complaints can all be traced to a deviant position of my knees and feet. Since December 2019 I have been wearing custom insoles and for the first time since my teenage years I no longer have stiff shoulders. In addition, my migraine attacks have decreased significantly.

A whole new world opened up for me when I suddenly had far fewer health problems. However, wearing insoles also raised all kinds of questions, even though my son has been wearing correction soles for some time. Now I suddenly had to look for shoes that are suitable for soles. My son only wears sneakers, but I wanted to have more options.

In the beginning I found this quite difficult and I really only went looking for sneakers. My preference is for Nike sneakers, because they are not only suitable for insoles, but are always nice and comfortable. I have since expanded my shoe collection with other shoes, such as lovely loafers suitable for the summer. I want to add a few nice sandals to this for the summer.
