Ever noticed prominent pores on your cheeks staring back from the mirror?
Pores are the openings of sebaceous glands that secrete sebum, keeping skin hydrated and supple. Coarse or enlarged pores feature wider openings, often from excess sebum in oily skin types. As we age, collagen loss weakens skin structure, causing pore walls to sag and pores to appear more visible.
In the May 2015 issue of Santé, Marielle Eggenkamp, skin coach for the hannah brand, explained: 'Try to get rid of the fact that your pores are "too big". Visible pores are very normal. In photos in magazines, they are simply brushed away, making us think they shouldn't be there. Also, a visible pore always remains visible. At least: as long as sebum continues to flow through it, and you can hope it stays that way, because that keeps the skin supple.'
