It's my favorite summer staple: the maxi dress! While you might picture me in jeans or leather pants, I absolutely love dresses—I just don't wear them enough. As someone who's renovated our home and manages a small farm, here's why they make perfect sense for warmer days.

Our lifestyle doesn't always align with dresses. Renovation projects? Not happening in a dress. Even off-season, winter wear is tricky with our pigs and goats. Feeding them twice daily means wading through mud—their snouts and paws leave marks everywhere. One pig even stands up for cuddles, which is sweet but messy in cold, wet weather.
Summer changes everything: no mud, cleaner paws, and sweltering heat that makes jeans unbearable. I adore flowy maxi dresses that flutter in the breeze—practical and stylish for farm life.
Simple: maxi dresses make me feel confident. At my age, and with calves I find too full, a knee scar, and thighs I'm not thrilled about, minis aren't for me. Maxis cover gracefully while aligning with 2021's long-dress trends. They're comfy for dog walks too, pairing effortlessly with slippers, sandals, heels, or boots depending on the occasion.
I own three. My everyday favorite is a sleeveless, sand-colored cotton maxi that flares out—perfect for home or vacations, layered with a denim jacket for all-day wear. (No photo handy, apologies!)
The featured dress above is party-ready: sleeveless and chic, though it hugs my bust a bit snugly. A few pounds lighter, and it'd drape even better.
I also have a form-fitting jersey maxi from years ago, still in rotation but rarely worn—it shows every curve (V-neck helps hide some!). Pictured here from a press trip to Portugal—maxis shine on warm getaways.
This summer, I'm eyeing a cheerful, swingy maxi like the one at the top—secure at the neckline, no wardrobe worries. A stunning boho style would be a fantastic addition too!
