Expert Tips for Washing Lingerie and Swimwear: Marie Jo's Guide

A viral TikTok sparked global debate: how often should you wash your bras? One creator shared that her friend washes hers just once a year, while responses ranged from after every wear to monthly. As lingerie experts at Marie Jo, we recommend washing after 2-3 wears for hygiene and longevity.

Lingerie & Swimwear Washing Tips

Always check the care label for specific instructions. Fasten all hooks and closures, then place items separately in a sealable laundry bag.

Fill the drum to a maximum of 1/3, ideally with similar fine, same-color items. Select a delicate cycle at 30°C with low spin (max. 600 rpm). Opt for a small amount of mild liquid detergent for delicates—skip bleach and fabric softener.

Skip the dryer; air-dry on a rack (indoors or in shade, away from direct sun). For padded bras, separate the cups to prevent dents or creases.

Once fully dry, store properly: nestle cups of bras and bikini tops together in a row to maintain shape in your drawer.

Avoid wearing new swimwear in saunas or jacuzzis; rinse immediately in fresh water after use. Never wring items, place on heat sources, or iron. Steer clear of high chlorine concentrations and sunscreen.
