Wednesday's Beauty Question: Why Is Curly Hair So Dry?

In general, curly and frizzy hair features an elliptical cross-section that forms its signature curls. This structure makes strands more fragile, leading to breakage at bend points. Curly scalps often have smaller sebaceous glands, producing less sebum—the oil that locks in moisture and shields the fiber. Sebum struggles to coat curls (unlike straight hair, where it glides easily). Add insufficient care plus harsh blow-drying or detangling, and dryness sets in. The fix: deeply nourish with curl-specific shampoos, masks, and daily leave-in creams on lengths and ends for vibrant, hydrated curls.
