Stunning Rose-Shaped Braids: Masterpieces by American Artist Alison Valsamis

Braids are a go-to hairstyle for sunny days, offering a fresh way to clear the face while maintaining sophistication. Think classic Indian braids starting from the crown and cascading down like Pocahontas, or neat cornrows. For true elegance, we've spotlighted an extraordinary creation by Connecticut-based artist Alison Valsamis. Inspired by roses, she crafted two showstopping looks: a dramatic giant rose bun at the nape, or three petite roses scattered across both sides for a softer vibe. Ideal for weddings or special nights out.

Loosen Braids for Added Depth

In an interview with Allure, Valsamis shares her expert technique: "To form these roses, I begin with a classic three-strand braid, wrapping it around itself as the core. I then alternate cornrow and Dutch braids—worked flat against the scalp—loosening them for dimension." She finishes by wrapping additional braids around the base and adding a thick final three-strand braid, pulled apart even more to mimic a blooming rose. The result? Breathtakingly realistic floral art. Replicating it at home might be tricky, but showing this to your stylist will turn heads—especially at wedding season. What do you think?
