French MP Pushes for Photoshopped Labels on Model Photos to Protect Young Girls from Body Insecurity

French MP Valérie Boyer is advocating for a mandatory quality mark on photos where models have been digitally altered using Photoshop. The goal is to shield young girls from the insecurities triggered by unrealistic beauty standards.

These images often pressure girls to achieve unattainably thin figures, with evidence linking them to a rise in anorexia cases around 2020. A clear label would highlight that the image is an edited version, not reality.

CDA MP Sabine Uitslag supports introducing a similar quality mark in the Netherlands. Online polls on various websites showed over half of respondents in favor, and more than three-quarters admitted that slimmed-down model images make them feel insecure.
