According to the 'Palmolive Showering in the Netherlands 2009' survey, nearly half of Dutch people do not shower every day.
Even though a small majority feel uncomfortable and a bit dirty without their morning shower, almost half still skip it daily.
The Dutch take a practical approach to showering. Many use the time productively, such as brushing their teeth (31%) or cleaning the shower (23%). Other common activities include singing, listening to the radio or CDs, or chatting with family members.
Morning routines
A morning shower is essential for most to start the day. Nearly three-quarters cite feeling clean and refreshed as key benefits, while 23% shower primarily to wake up. In the evening, showers provide peace and relaxation.
However, even this refreshing ritual has its frustrations. The top shower annoyances among Dutch respondents are:
– Weak water pressure (52%);
– Sudden cold water (51%);
– Water jet too cold (41%);
– Water jet too hot and unadjustable (14%);
– Dirt on floor and wall tiles (49%);
– Clogged shower drain (38%).
Women experience more irritation from dirt, clogged drains, and a lack of clean, dry towels compared to men.
