Parasols Provide Limited UV Protection, University of Valencia Study Reveals

Think you're fully shielded from the sun under a parasol? Think again. Researchers from Spain's University of Valencia have uncovered that UV protection from parasols falls short of expectations.

Even beneath a parasol, a significant 34% of ultraviolet radiation reaches the ground. While parasols effectively block direct rays, they offer little defense against scattered, diffuse UV light, according to the study.

That's why it's essential to apply sunscreen generously—even under the parasol—wear a hat, and avoid peak sun hours.
