Have you ever wondered if your vulva is "normal"? A landmark study—the largest ever conducted—confirms there's no such thing as a standard "normal" vulva, challenging outdated medical definitions.
Swiss researchers meticulously analyzed the inner and outer labia, clitoris, vaginal opening, and perineum of 657 white women aged 15 to 84. They established averages for key features but found such vast variations that defining a strict "normal" proved impossible.
Inner labia averaged 43 mm in length, ranging from 5 mm to 100 mm. Outer labia averaged 80 mm, from 12 mm to 80 mm. The clitoris averaged 7 mm, spanning 0.5 mm to 34 mm.
The team sought a baseline for the "normal white vulva," but the data underscored profound natural diversity instead.
This evidence reassures women eyeing cosmetic surgery, validating that variation is the true norm.
