I Tested the Club 50 Foch Bootcamp: Pushing Limits with Pro Thai Boxing Coaches

The Promise: Bootcamps trace their roots to intense U.S. Marine training, aimed at surpassing personal limits and fostering group cohesion. I experienced a morning session from Club 50 Foch's 5-day program, founded by world and French Thai boxing champion Abdoulaye Fadiga. It promises to burn 10,000 calories through high-intensity workouts.

Hands-On Test: Arriving at Club 50 Foch on an empty stomach as instructed—for authentic conditions—I'm greeted with a refreshing Detox Delight fruit juice. We kick off with a 15-minute "oxygenation run," blending steady endurance paces with sprints. The bursts challenge me, but I persevere. Next, a cardio circuit: stationary bike, wall sits, modified push-ups, squats, and more—six exercises, one minute each for six minutes straight, followed by a one-minute rest. We repeat this four times. My weekly tennis games clearly haven't prepared me for this! We then shift to the mats for 25 minutes targeting deep core muscles like abs and glutes. It's somewhat easier than cardio, but fatigue is setting in. The highlight: 45 minutes of Thai boxing, guided by elite coaches from INSEP and former pros. Despite exhaustion, it's playful and engaging—learning punches feels empowering (they even nicknamed me Mike Tyson!). We wrap with stretching to prevent soreness, followed by a nourishing Detox Delight lunch.

Verdict: It was grueling, yet incredibly rewarding. I loved the challenge and the push beyond my comfort zone, though I felt it for days after. I'm not sure I'd commit to all five days, but this session reignited my motivation for regular workouts, including abs twice a week. What stood out was the coaching: even when I struggled (especially in cardio), the pros encouraged me relentlessly. I pushed far harder than I would alone in a gym—and I'm proud of that accomplishment.

Practical Info: Bootcamp at Club 50 Foch (50 Avenue Foch, 75116 Paris). €400 for 5 mornings. Next session: December 15-19, 2014. More info here.
