Beauty Tip: How to Create Long-Lasting, Smudge-Proof Smoky Eyes

Question: I love doing smoky eyes, but after an hour, they start looking messy. The kohl pencil on my upper lid bleeds, and the line on my lower lash line runs. Is there a way to make smoky eyes more durable or waterproof?

Answer: “It’s frustrating when all your effort fades so quickly. As a master makeup artist, I recommend starting with an eyelid primer. This eye base absorbs sebum, smooths the eyelid surface, and prevents makeup from settling into creases. Let it dry fully before applying your smoky eyes for lasting results.

Kohl pencils are waxy and prone to smudging. The pro trick? Dab them with powder to set—use translucent setting powder or eyeshadow. A smudge brush helps blend for that perfect smoky effect while locking it in place.

For even better wear, switch to a long-wear kohl pencil. It’s less greasy and more stable, but still benefits from powder setting. Your look will stay flawless all day.
