Expert Tips to Fix and Prevent Common Pantyhose Problems This Holiday Season

As a fashion stylist with over 15 years helping women look polished at holiday events, I know tights are a Christmas staple. Here's how to avoid or fix common pantyhose pitfalls for a flawless look.

Static Cling
Party dresses and tights often generate static from friction, causing your dress to stick to your legs. Prevent this by lightly spraying hairspray on your tights while wearing them—it's a tried-and-true trick from the runway.

Runs (Ladders)
Stop a run in its tracks with clear nail polish. Keep a bottle in your purse, and always pack a spare pair of tights for peace of mind.

Emergency Backup
Shave your legs the night before. If both your tights and spares tear, you'll still have smooth legs under your dress.

Rolled Waistband
If the waistband rolls down but the tights are otherwise fine, twist it into a hip band. Alternatively, layer with panties or a thong—ensure no seams show through your dress.

Toe Tears
The toe area snags easily. For patterned tights, layer a matching pair underneath. No spare? Trim the foot for instant leggings, or opt for closed-toe shoes to hide it.

Nail Snags
Sharp nails cause tears when pulling on tights. File fingernails and toenails smooth beforehand—prevention is key to snag-free wear.

Pre-Party Test
Before heading out, walk around the house in slippers or socks over your tights. This avoids sneaky pine needles from your Christmas tree causing last-minute runs.
