Nearly three-quarters of Dutch women experience vaginal discomfort, yet most lack knowledge on effective prevention or self-treatment options.
Vaginal discomfort is a common, recurring issue for many Dutch women. Research conducted by Health Square and Multi-Gyn in 2020 found that 72% had experienced symptoms like itching, irritation, burning sensations, or abnormal, odorous discharge in the past year.
Prevention and Treatment
For 80% of affected women, these issues recur, but few consult their GP. Instead, many endure the symptoms without seeking solutions. Medical biologist Annelize Goedbloed emphasizes, "Women should openly discuss this. Most complaints can be easily resolved at home."
Understanding Vaginal Discharge and Bacteria
Listen to Your Body
The primary causes are bacterial infections (bacterial vaginosis) or yeast infections (Candida). The vagina hosts a delicate balance of bacteria and fungi. Disruptions allow one to overgrow, leading to infection.
The vaginal environment naturally maintains cleanliness. However, support is valuable during menstruation or after intercourse, which can upset this balance. Factors like individual sensitivities, stress, hygiene, overall health, and physique contribute to recurring issues. Specialized products that restore and support healthy vaginal flora offer a simple, effective solution.
