As we age, fine lines and wrinkles gradually appear on our skin. But what exactly causes them to develop?
Our skin comprises several layers, with the dermis—directly beneath the epidermis—housing collagen and elastin fibers. These essential proteins maintain the skin's firmness and elasticity. Over time, natural aging reduces elastin production, diminishing resilience and allowing wrinkles to form. Smoking exacerbates this: toxins travel via blood vessels to the dermis, accelerating damage. UVA rays from sunlight are another major culprit, penetrating deep into the dermis and breaking down its structure.
