Listeners of De Wild in de Afternoon (KRO-NCRV) have voted "Poenie" as the new common term for female genitals, securing 34.5% of the votes. This decision came during a segment last Monday featuring Rutgers, the expertise center for sexuality, and journalist Sofie van den Enk, who sought a widely accepted word for female genitalia.
Options included tummy, vagina, flamoes, poenie, and yoni. Sweden leads the way, where the Swedish affiliate of Rutgers introduced "snippa" 15 years ago—a term now universally used.
Interestingly, "poenie" isn't entirely new; it's the traditional Surinamese word for female genitals.
