Heelys, the trend of the moment for kids

I'd almost say… you must have been living under a rock for the past few months if you missed this trend with Heelys, but that's not entirely fair. A few days ago my daughter and I stayed in sunny South Holland in a hotel full of (in her eyes) elderly people…. and indeed you can already feel it coming… they totally understood these shoes on wheels.

What are Heelys exactly?

My daughter has been complaining about it for months. Heelys is the real name, but there is also talk about roller shoes, wheely's, heely's, heelies or whatever else you can make of it if you let your imagination run wild. However, they all have one thing in common. They are sneakers on wheels. Small wheels that are actually not visible from a distance (unless you know they are Heelys, then you can see it of course).

You see the sneakers in many different colors and variants and they come with one or two wheels under the shoe. According to my daughter, at least she has the very-very-coolest Heelys ever 😉 . And I'm glad about that, because they weren't really cheap, but they are very popular and nice and sturdy.

After months of asking, I finally gave in. Not because I don't wish them these shoes on wheels, but simply because I sometimes think it's good to let her wait for something new. After all, I'm not Sinterklaas (even though it sometimes seems that way) and every now and then I think that our upbringing could use a little push in the right direction and that madam should feel once again that she really wants something.

Anyway, ordered over the weekend, it was of course exciting whether they would arrive in time for our planned outing on Tuesday. Because of course my daughter didn't want to go on the road without her own chosen heels (as she would write it, huh ). From the moment of ordering to the school-leaving moment on Tuesday, she could hardly talk about anything else. You understand that they did not last long in the box and that I have not seen them without them in the past few days 😀 .

Even during our walk on the beach and the climbing, she had to wear her new favorite sneakers. Fortunately, this is not a problem because you can remove the wheels fairly easily and put a plastic square in its place so that you can use the shoe as is. Because there is no success with wheels in the sand.

From the hotel (yes, even inside during breakfast she couldn't resist), to the beach and from the Euromast to the SS Rotterdam and the new Markthal in Rotterdam. She has done everything, but really everything, on her wheels, to the irritation of my son who actually wanted to. But hey... size 30, that's not going to be him anymore with an adolescent of almost 12, huh.

To my surprise, there was really not a single time called 'I'm tired' or 'I have sore feet' which I had expected somewhere. And she wasn't even kicking. well no. She just went through the day happily. What a relief! You can cover miles without a hitch. In the future, she is no longer allowed to go without those things, so it also provides an advantage for us, the new Heelys. Below a small video of the first 'passes' that Lotte makes.

By the way, did you know that fun events are already being organized? May 16, for example, you can Roll Fat in Amsterdam!

Also looking for these cool roller shoes? I bought them at Rolschoen.nl, but they are of course available in more places. Is your son or daughter already rolling on this latest craze, or not yet?
