No Big Summer Holiday: Our Family's Year-Round Motorcycle Adventures

This year, we're forgoing a major vacation to focus on racking up miles on our motorcycle. House relocation and renovations mean staying home this summer, so my husband Frank and I plan regular rides for relaxation. Our daughter Lotte recently asked, "Mom, when can I come along?" Now, I'm researching kids' motorcycle gear—and checking out women's summer options too. I love my leather jacket, but it's too sweaty for hot days! 😊

Riding Motorcycles Year-Round

Last November, we earned our motorcycle licenses and squeezed in chilly rides before winter. We skipped riding then due to weather and off-season insurance. This year, we're changing that—January and February offered perfect opportunities for scenic trips.

Winter riding demands layers: insulated gloves, leather jackets, sturdy boots, and even ski thermals under my jacket for extra warmth.

We resumed in March, and it felt thrilling yet rusty for me. Frank jumped right back in, but I took it slow. No rush—except a gentle twist of the throttle! 😊

My Harley: A Reliable 'Oldie' with Character

My Harley looks sharp and runs strong, but it's an older model needing a choke on cold starts. It stays on for the first few miles to prevent stalling.

Mastering this after a break is key. Starting and pulling away is easy, but navigating curves or roundabouts slowly is tricky—the extra fuel surge makes it surge or stutter if not handled right. Practice makes perfect, and we're back in the groove.

These rides have me excited for gear upgrades. Motorcycle shopping beats regular clothes hunting, especially tailoring to seasons.

Riding in Style: My Motorcycle Wish List

Here's my wishlist to enhance rides for me and my bike—who knows, maybe a gift or Mother's Day surprise from Frank! 😊

  • A breathable summer jacket with CE protection, like a denim-sweat blend—airier than my leather one.
  • Bike-specific boots with a heel; my current ones are worn and not moto-tough enough.
  • Motorcycle navigation for stress-free exploring.
  • Saddlebags fitted for my Harley (still hunting).
  • A wrist wallet—perfect for rides or festivals!

The kids need gear too: clothing, boots, helmets. There goes the vacation budget!

P.S. While writing, I caved and bought that hoodie. Online browsing gets me every time!
