TV presenter Wilfred Genee was voted Dom Bontje 2017 by a majority of votes. He was surprised with the award by the director of Bont voor Dieren and a Shownieuws film crew. Accepting graciously, Wilfred admitted he had been naive about the fur on his jacket. He pledged to Bont voor Dieren never to wear fur again and asked how to become an ambassador for the organization.
In a close race, influencer Lizzy van der Ligt placed second—she was often seen in fox fur slippers last year. Princess Beatrix came third for her frequent fox fur outfits. Rapper Ronnie Flex and stylist Bastiaan van Schaik took fourth and fifth, both wearing coyote fur collars from painful leghold traps. The ladies of De Balkjes rounded out the list, spotted in various furs.
