Nike Debuts Groundbreaking 'Nike (M)' Maternity Sportswear Collection for Expecting and Postpartum Athletes

This news is a game-changer for fitness enthusiasts and expectant mothers determined to stay active while looking stylish. Pregnant women often struggle to find suitable sportswear, especially in athletic retail. Nike, the global sportswear leader, has addressed this gap with its innovative 'Nike (M)' collection, designed specifically for women navigating pregnancy and postpartum changes.

The 'Nike (M)' Maternity and Postpartum Collection

Say goodbye to borrowing oversized men's gear for comfort. The 'Nike (M)' line prioritizes superior support and thoughtful design, tailored to women's unique needs during pregnancy. Nike drew on extensive pregnancy data and insights from elite female athletes to create these pieces.

The initial collection features four essentials: a specialized breastfeeding sports bra, a versatile T-shirt, a convertible sweater-vest, and high-support leggings with an adjustable stretch waistband that accommodates (or reveals) the belly as needed.

Adding to its appeal, every item is crafted from eco-friendly recycled polyester (78-88%), underscoring Nike's sustainability commitment. High-profile female athletes and celebrities modeled the collection, blending performance with a positive, empowering vibe.

Why Nike Launched 'Nike (M)'

Is this too good to be true? Fashion journalist Melody Thomas of Marie Claire suggests Nike is also rebuilding its image. In 2019, American runner Alysia Montaño called out the brand in her New York Times op-ed, 'Nike Told Me to Dream Crazy, Until I Wanted a Baby,' highlighting sponsorship challenges for pregnant athletes—an issue echoed by runner Phoebe Wright.

Nike responded by introducing maternity policies for sponsored athletes. Today, its stance has evolved: 'There are many barriers to staying active during pregnancy and motherhood, but we see this phase not as a setback, but as part of a woman's athletic journey,' says Nike Senior Design Director Carmen Zolman.

This inclusive initiative redefines motherhood in elite sports, backed by Nike's authority in athletic innovation.

Mark your calendars for September 17, when the collection launches in stores and on Nike's website.
