We tested:the Philips Lumea Comfort pulsed light epilator

Philips promise.

"Philips Lumea sends gentle pulses of light to the root of the hair, causing the hair to fall naturally and prevent regrowth. Repeated regularly, this hair removal guarantees soft skin, day after day. Clinical studies have demonstrated a significant reduction in hair growth, with perfectly smooth skin from four sessions every 2 weeks. To maintain these results, simply repeat the sessions when necessary. The interval between sessions depends on regrowth. Anyway...sounds hot, doesn't it?

Crash test.

One of the advantages of the Lumea Comfort is that you don't have to wait for it to be charged to use it. Plug it in, turn it on and adjust the intensity. To do this, you just have to look in the instructions for the intensity corresponding to your skin and hair color (for me, a light-skinned brunette, it's number 4). You can't really go wrong because the camera has a skin color sensor:if you choose the wrong setting (too high), it doesn't fire the flash. To use the Lumea, simply place it on the skin, clean-shaven, flash and shift it slightly after each light pulse. Don't worry, it doesn't burn, it's even rather painless:it can tingle, especially in the armpits and bikini area, but on the lower legs, you don't feel anything.

Good to know:if you have shaved your hair badly (or if you waited a few days before using the Lumea), the light flash will touch the visible part of the hair, so you lose efficiency (it does not reach the root of the hair) and it can smell a bit burnt.

Verdict.

After the first session, the skin is not damaged or particularly dry. I expected to see my hair fall out but no, I didn't see anything. However, after two or three shaves, I started to notice that I could space out the shaves more and more:the hairs are finer and grow back a little less quickly. Well, there are still stubborn areas like the knees where the hair grows back a little faster… After two months, I switched to one pulsed light hair removal session per month. Since then (it's been six months since I started), I don't even need to shave in the meantime and I see small areas (especially on the calves) where I no longer have any hair at all. It's stunning!

I am really very happy with the results obtained. Admittedly, the price is not necessarily cheap (250 €) but the Lumea Comfort is already much more accessible than its big brothers (between 329 € and 450 € depending on the Lumea Philips models). I tell myself that I will make it profitable in less than a year because I save more than 30€ per month from a beautician (I used to have my hair removed in a salon) and my legs are perfect for really a long time.
