Dyson Airwrap™ Review: Our Hands-On Test of Effortless, Low-Heat Styling

How It Works

In 2016, Dyson entered the beauty space with the Supersonic™ hair dryer, powered by a V9 digital motor that delivers powerful airflow to dry hair faster while safeguarding strands from damage. In 2018, the Airwrap™ arrived as the brand's first multi-styler, complete with attachments like 30mm and 40mm barrels plus smoothing brushes for curling, straightening, and shaping. Using the same V9 motor, it employs the Coandă effect—high-speed airflow that naturally draws hair around the barrel—allowing styles without extreme heat. Game-changing tech, right?

Our Hands-On Test

Setup is simple: attach a tool, pick from three airflow strengths and three heat levels, and style away. The Coandă effect impresses on barrels—hold near the ends, and hair wraps itself. Mastering section size takes practice to avoid skimpy strands or overloads, but it's rewarding and easy once you get it (nape area aside). Barrels yield natural waves; the flat brush banishes frizz for sleek blowouts; the round brush adds volume to fine hair. Damp hair in, styled and dry out in minutes—a true time-saver. Bonus: less heat means shinier, healthier hair with minimal frizz versus traditional tools.

Our Verdict

The Dyson Airwrap™ lives up to the hype, delivering pro-level styles while protecting hair from high-heat harm. It demands a short learning curve—not ideal for total novices. Price is the catch: from €449 to €499 for full kits. A smart buy for daily brushers (attachments even replace your dryer); less so for occasional use.
