Élodie Gossuin's Honest Beauty Routine: Tips from a Former Miss France and Mom of Four

How do you take care of your skin?

The cornerstone of my routine—and what experts everywhere recommend—is thorough makeup removal. Even without makeup, I cleanse nightly with micellar water; it feels like slipping out of the day's armor. I follow with a toner and moisturizer, and the difference shows by morning. Daily hydration is non-negotiable, though time is scarce. I've been known to apply cream at red lights (laughs). Weekends allow for extras like a scrub or Vichy's Purifying Clay Mask, which takes just 5 minutes and delivers results I love. With four kids, a shower is often victory enough! Pregnancies transformed my skin—from teenage-like acne to fewer wrinkles, a silver lining I embrace positively.

And for your body?

Time is equally limited here. Exfoliation happens sporadically on weekends, and even hydration isn't daily. I'm devoted to La Roche-Posay cleansers for my sensitive, reactive skin and my children's. Hand cream is my everyday essential.

How do you care for your blonde hair?

Shoots weaken my long hair with backcombing and heat tools, so at home, I air-dry and minimize styling. Post-wash, I apply a mask; weekly, I leave it on overnight for a deep treatment. Batiste dry shampoo is my go-to for instant volume and vitality.

What are your makeup essentials?

I keep it minimal daily: BB cream and mascara, like La Roche-Posay's Hydréane BB Crème and Respectissime Volume. Lips stay natural with balm or Marc Jacobs rosé gloss. For more, I reach for Nars Exhibit A blush, Desire matte pencil, and similar eye products.

What's the best makeup tip from a pro?

My makeup artist Mélinda (of La Loge Beauté blog) taught me: Mix concealer with a touch of tinted foundation to camouflage dark circles naturally. It sheers and warms the formula, blending seamlessly. Applied precisely, it restores my Miss France-era glow (laughs)!

What product never leaves your purse?

Motherhood reshapes your bag! Cicaplast balm and arnica capsules are lifelines for me now.

Any beauty faux pas to share?

Miss France days were trial-and-error central. Self-managed looks led to disasters like over-dark brown shadow on brows— one wrong element can vulgarize the face. Makeup can worsen natural beauty if mismatched. Other regrets: ultra-long fake nails, self-tanner mishaps, pink highlights (now trendy—I'm ahead of the curve, laughs!). Know thyself is key.

What beauty advice for your daughters?

Self-love first. I urge my eldest (turning 10) to embrace sports—judo, soccer, tennis, now rock climbing—for body confidence. They mimic me in the bathroom; she quizzes products, the youngest raids my Mavala and Ecrinal polishes weekly (rainbows only for now). These girly bonding moments are priceless!

Favorite perfume?

Madeleine territory: Mum's Guerlain Shalimar, unworn by me. I prefer fresh, natural scents like Roger & Gallet's Fleur de Figuier or Gingembre Rouge. Lately, Cinq Mondes' Egyptian Water has me hooked.

Regaining your figure post-twin pregnancies?

Patience is vital—nine months on, nine off, as Mum said. No crash diets for this epicurean who savors food and wine. Breastfeeding added weight, but a year restored me each time. XLS Medical sticks post-meals helped shed those final 2-3 kilos effectively.
