Why Do Pimples Keep Returning to the Exact Same Spot? A Dermatologist Explains

Ever woken up to a pesky pimple right in the middle of your forehead? It's a frustration we all know too well. Just when you think it's finally cleared up—thanks to your creams and drying lotions—it reappears days later in the exact same spot, often bigger and more stubborn. Annoying, right? The good news: dermatologist Dr. Mona Gohara shares expert insight on how to break this cycle and prevent pimples from coming back again (and again).

A Simple Solution

Dr. Mona Gohara explains that recurring pimples in the same location often stem from one common habit: touching them. "If we're talking about a classic pimple with a white head, chances are touching it spreads bacteria across your skin, triggering more breakouts," she told StyleCaster. She also cautions against popping them: "Every time you try to pop a pimple, you push bacteria deeper into the pores, causing inflammation that leads to even more pimples over time."

Steer clear of drying or irritating creams too, as they can backfire. "These treatments weaken the skin's barrier and harm healthy cells," Dr. Gohara warns. Vulnerable skin then invites more bacteria and impurities—a vicious cycle.

The solution? Keep your hands off. Resist touching, popping, or over-treating to help your skin heal properly and stay clear.
