Expert DIY Guide: Effortless Vaporous Curls Using Tissues and a Straightener

Unlock salon-quality vaporous curls at home with this tried-and-true technique I've used with clients for years. As a professional stylist, I recommend these simple tools: paper tissues and a hair straightener. Start with dry hair for best results.

Section off large strands (aim for 20-30 curls total). Twist 5-6 tissues together to form a sturdy 'stem'—the thickness ensures strength. Wrap each hair section around the tissue stem carefully, avoiding tip breakage, and secure with a knot. Vary it for natural movement: wrap some from the roots, others stopping 2 cm short.

Clamp each wrapped section in the hot straightener for 20-30 seconds. The secret to long-lasting hold? Let it cool completely before unwinding the tissues.

No straightener? Use slightly damp hair, wrap as above, and sleep in it overnight.

Once tissues are removed, scrunch curls between your hands, then lightly tease at the roots with thumb and forefinger for instant volume. Ditch combs and brushes—they'll flatten your style.

Pro alternative: Grab iron hair clips. On towel-dried hair, twist 2 cm strands around your finger, clip in place, and air-dry for ultra-defined, cool curls.
