Beauty Sleep Proven: Study Shows Adequate Rest Makes You Look More Attractive and Healthier

The concept of "beauty sleep" holds true. A Swedish study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) found that people who get enough sleep appear more attractive and healthier than those who are sleep-deprived.

Rested individuals were rated as more attractive and healthier overall. Researchers confirmed for the first time scientifically that sufficient sleep enhances appearance, validating the long-held idea of beauty sleep.

In the study photos: Volunteers were photographed after eight hours of sleep and again after 31 hours awake. No makeup was allowed, and they maintained relaxed, neutral expressions. Then, 65 observers rated them on fatigue, attractiveness, and health.

Photos of sleep-deprived participants scored lower on health and attractiveness, appearing more fatigued. The findings underscore that inadequate sleep shows visibly on your face.
