Tips for using self-tanners

There is no doubt that you will feel slimmer, sexier and healthier if you have a nice tan. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with a tan, and not everyone can tan in the sun. Also, as tempting as it may be to spend a long time in the sun, it's important to remember that it's not really safe to expose your skin to sunlight. You can easily get melanoma and other skin related cancers, not to mention wrinkles! A safer alternative is to use a self-tanner. For the best results, read our tips for using self-tanners, which are guaranteed to give you a flawless tan.

Use a good self-tanner
First of all, it is important to use a good quality product that delivers professional results, and that suits your skin. Minetan products are an example of a good self-tanner. Minetan has professional quality products for home use that are suitable for every skin tone. The products create a flawless tan and are made from quality ingredients that are vegan and PETA friendly. Moreover, you will not suffer from an orange complexion, whether you use a mousse, spray or drops. Whatever your favorite product, you will find a good self-tanner solution for every situation.

Prepare your skin
It is essential to properly prepare the skin before you start applying a self-tanner. Exfoliating your skin from head to toe is the first step in ensuring perfect application. Irregular, dry skin does not respond well to self-tanners. Gently scrub away dead skin cells with a skin-smoothing scrub. If you have yet to shave or wax, give your skin 24 hours to recover before applying a self-tanner. This prevents small drops of self-tanner from accumulating in the pores where you shaved the hair. Do not shave after applying the self-tanner, because this will keep your tan less long.

Moisturize rough skin
Before applying self-tanner, use an oil-free moisturizer on dry skin to soften the skin. Pay special attention to the extra dry areas such as hands, feet, elbows and knees. A lotion or cream ensures even coverage. Try to let the moisturizer sit for at least half an hour before applying the self-tanner.

Use a glove
Nothing tells you more about using a self-tanner than brown palms and fingers. A glove protects your palms and fingers against stains and ensures that you apply the self-tanner evenly and without streaks. You get a natural-looking glow for your skin – without getting caught.

Applying the self-tanner
Follow the directions on the description and do not let the product get in your eyes, nose or mouth. Massage the product onto your skin in a circular motion. Apply the self-tanner to your body in areas such as your arms, then legs and the rest of your body. Spread the product lightly from your ankles to your feet and from your wrists to your hands.

Don't forget your face!
Once you've given your body the perfect shade, don't forget your face. This may be the step most of us are a little afraid of, but using a specially designed facial self-tanner will give you an even glow all over, without risking blocking your pores or going too dark. Just make sure the shade on your face is the same as the rest of your body.

Clean
There is often more of the self-tanner left on the knees, elbows and ankles. To dilute the tanning effect in these areas, rub them in gently with a damp towel or apply a little lotion on top of the self-tanner.

Take the time to dry
Wait at least 10 minutes before getting dressed. Wear loose clothing and try to avoid sweating.
