Welcome back for the second installment of my guide to steering clear of common makeup pitfalls. In September, I shared the first five tips from my top 10 list, splitting them up to keep things digestible. Today, we're wrapping up with numbers 6 through 10, drawn from years of personal trial and error in my beauty routine. If these resonate, drop a comment—I'd love to create more guides!
Eyebrows frame the face and can transform your look entirely. I'm no pro brow technician—I've never had mine waxed professionally—but I've learned what works through experimentation. First rule: Skip aggressive plucking. Overly thin brows lack natural appeal.
Avoid caking on product too, as it creates an unnatural effect. Opt for light filling with a matching powder or tinted brow gel to cover sparse spots. Use pencil sparingly to prevent harsh lines. Not sure on shaping? Align with a pencil or brush for reference points (see image above).
My go-to is Benefit's Gimme Brow gel—quick and effortless. NYX's version is a budget-friendly favorite.
This applies across the face: Ditch excessive blush and rainbow eyelids. Stick to harmonious warm or cool tones for eyeshadow; most palettes are curated for this. A pop of colored liner over bare lids with mascara works for summer, though.
Blush often goes overboard—we pile it on to see pigment, but a light touch suffices. Bathroom lighting can trick you, so check by a window. If it's too much, blend with a powder brush. Pro tip: Apply cream blush post-foundation, pre-powder. I love Clinique's Chubby Stick Cheek Pop.
Resist the heavy hand, even if you crave doe eyes. Clumps lead to the dreaded 'spider legs' effect fast. Two coats max—beyond that, product builds up and flakes.
For top lashes: Start with lengthening mascara to curl, define, and extend. Follow with black volumizing for intense gaze. This combo flatters most eyes without excess, minimizing smudges later.
Perfect red lips that last? Challenging, but achievable (future article incoming). Matte velvet finishes are chic but unforgiving on unprepared lips—fine lines and flakes ruin it.
Exfoliate first, then hydrate: Thick balm at night, lighter one morning with pats. A silicone primer smooths for glamour. Lip liner is non-negotiable for hold, intensity, and precision, especially reds or darks—match tone-on-tone. Go matte for longevity or creamy for comfort.
Quality brushes elevate makeup. Ditch foam applicators, sponges, and cheapies from palettes. Invest in precision brushes for pro results.
No need for luxury prices: e.l.f. Studio line, Real Techniques, or Zoeva offer excellent value. Starter kits beat single brushes cost-wise. Don't skimp—tools make or break your skills.
