My Authentic Relationship with Makeup: Passion, Routine, and Breaking Stereotypes

Exploring My Deep Connection to Makeup

As a seasoned beauty blogger with years of hands-on experience, today's post dives into something personal: my genuine relationship with makeup. While I typically review lipsticks, foundations, and skincare, cosmetics remain at the heart of my content amid fashion, lifestyle, blogging, reading, and cooking. Let me share why makeup is far more than surface-level—it's a true passion.

Opening a beauty blog signals deep passion for the subject, yet makeup often gets dismissed as 'girly' or superficial, akin to equestrian sports, contemporary art, or patisserie. Yes, it enhances appearance, but for me, it's infinitely richer. People frequently ask online and in person: Why do I wear so much makeup daily? Do I dislike my natural self? Here's my candid response, proving makeup can be a legitimate passion.

MY RELATIONSHIP WITH MAKEUP

"Do you spend all day doing makeup?"

This is the top question about my beauty blog. I get it—outsiders don't see the behind-the-scenes effort. No, I don't apply and remove makeup nonstop. Running a beauty blog isn't about constant face experiments.

Product testing starts with the sensory experience on my hands: texture, scent, blendability—especially initially. This applies to skincare too, alongside comparisons. My passion extends beyond application.

Theory fuels it equally: I devour brand press releases, track launches, study formulations and innovations. Cosmetics have news, strategies—like luxury industries—that intrigue me as a professional. It's a sophisticated field.

"How long does your morning routine take?"

This one irks me—what's the 'right' answer? Jokingly, I say 'two hours' for reactions. Truthfully, with ample time, I savor 1-2 hours on detailed or artistic looks—it's my joy, not a chore.

Daily, it's about 30 minutes: I rise early for this ritual, embracing the moment. I can rush in 10-15 minutes if needed. Why does it matter to others? It's my choice; I respect differing priorities and prioritize empathy. As a passionate makeup enthusiast, why skip it?

"Do you wear makeup every single day?"

No one thinks I sleep in it! During my nearly two years of remote work, I skipped makeup for screen days—no point. I logged more bare-faced time weekly, excluding Sundays. But outings? Pure pleasure.

"Don't you love yourself au naturel?"

This assumes heavy makeup hides insecurity—a harmful stereotype. In metros, I note most women skip it or go light; full looks like mine stand out, sometimes uncomfortably. Why apologize for bold makeup? Bare-faced women hear 'make an effort' critiques too—damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Simply: I love makeup. Not for approval, partners, or concealment—pure enjoyment. Varied daily looks, new products, even flops (like cakey foundation I review honestly). Perfect blushes on off days, bold eyes-and-lips, nudes, or skipping for gym/flights—it's freeing.

Self-love varies daily for everyone; I don't loathe my bare face. Perhaps my 'natural' is Clémence, styled uniquely daily? That's the real me.
