The Rietveld Academy Fashion Show is the premier annual showcase of the fashion department at Amsterdam's Gerrit Rietveld Academy. From August 26–30, 2020, experience the latest graduating designers through a dynamic, multidisciplinary presentation in the historic academy gymnasium. Evoking an abstracted film set, this five-day performance fosters intimate connections between visitors and creators via a looping series of events.
Spotlighting the visionary graduation collections of Irene Ha, Milad Taheri (Miladt), Idan Grady, Darwin Winklaar, Laura Fernández Antolín, Louise Gjessø, and Javier Velasquez, the show challenges fashion's conventions and traditional catwalk formats. Department head Niels Klavers notes: "Students are responding to the crisis, envisioning a post-COVID world. This presentation reveals their transformed environment."
Rietveld Academy Fashion Show 2020 unfolds in a meticulously scripted space—a seamless blend of graduate works, live performances, and video installations. Visitors immerse in recurring dialogues, movements, and interactions enacted by performers, drawn from the designers' theses. This innovative format offers profound, personal insights into the next generation of fashion innovators and artists.
