FIRE: Lauren Bowker's Thermochromic Hair Dye That Shifts Color with Temperature

The Phoenix Hair trend, with its vibrant fluorescent shades, already wowed hair enthusiasts. Now, a groundbreaking innovation takes it further: FIRE, a hair coloring that transforms hues based on ambient temperature. Scientist and designer Lauren Bowker—who embraces her 'witch' persona from growing up near England's Pendle Hill, site of the 1612 witch trials—created this marvel, set to debut at London Fashion Week.

Committed to Ecology

How does it work? Bowker shared with Dazed: "When heat or cold contacts the pigment, the chemical composition alters… Indoors, your hair shows one color; outdoors, another. Red locks might turn blue in the wind."

Through her brand THEUNSEEN, Bowker goes beyond gimmicks to spotlight environmental challenges. "A book of carbon footprint data won't connect," she explains, "but a jacket shifting color with pollution levels resonates universally."

Bowker also developed a Swarovski crystal headband that changes color based on brain activity. Stay tuned for more. Watch the FIRE project video—it's captivating.
