Toulouse, France – The revered Black Madonna of La Daurade, a cherished icon venerated by pregnant women for centuries, needs a new wardrobe. Drawing from reports by our colleagues at
La Dépêche, the association safeguarding her heritage has invited ten premier fashion houses to design bespoke outfits.

These include hand-embroidered robes for key Christian calendar occasions, alongside her everyday attire. Housed in the Basilica of La Daurade, the Black Virgin and Child statue's garments have worn thin from years of age and reverent handling.
Lacking skilled traditional embroiderers, the Association for the Promotion of La Daurade's Heritage turned to haute couture experts: Valentino, Prada, Gucci, Christian Lacroix, and Jean-Paul Gaultier. Only they possess the finesse for such intricate embroidery, lace, and opulence.
Issued last week, the call has yet to receive responses from the designers.
