The British fashion retailer ASOS is offering a non-functional "dummy" version of Apple's popular wireless AirPods, marketed as stylish ear jewelry.
Since their debut in December 2016, Apple's AirPods have captivated millennials with their distinctive white-stem design, becoming a staple in everyday life. Now, ASOS has capitalized on this trend by launching a replica in its ASOS Design collection—sold as a single "ear piece" for just €8.49.
Gizmodo first spotted this playful product on ASOS's site, where it's described as the ideal "little touch" to complete any outfit. Note: it's one earphone only, as it produces no sound.
For context, Apple launched AirPods at the end of 2016 and has sold over 40 million units. Amazon recently joined the wireless earbuds market, with Counterpoint Research reporting 27 million units sold globally in Q2 2019 alone, per BFMTV.
