Women with fuller lips often appear younger, even in the presence of wrinkles and age spots, according to research conducted by Unilever scientists.
Researchers examined 102 Dutch women aged 59 to 81 and 162 British women aged 45 to 75. Those with a younger appearance for their age consistently had relatively fuller lips. "When we identified individuals who looked young for their age, their lips stood out compared to others," explained lead researcher David Gunn.
Lip thickness varies significantly in women over 60, ranging from 3 millimeters to 2.2 centimeters. Children's lips appear fuller relative to their face size. Lip growth typically stops around age 21, after which they begin to thin—a process largely determined by genetics.
