"Keskistri in the Bathroom": The Expert Campaign Guiding Proper Recycling of Cosmetics and Hygiene Packaging

In France, recycling packaging has become a common habit. A 2014 Ipsos study for the Sorting Gesture Observatory revealed that 87% of people sort their packaging, though only 44% do so systematically. Cosmetics and hygiene product packaging, however, lags behind—often due to lapsed sorting habits in the bathroom, confusion over what and how to recycle, or limited space for multiple bins.

To address this, Eco-Emballages and the Federation of Beauty Companies (FEBEA) launched the "Keskistri in the Bathroom" awareness campaign on May 23, 2016. (Keskistri is a playful nod to "What do we sort?") Five short beauty tutorial videos feature a young woman and her expert sidekick, Monsieur Papillon, a selective sorting specialist. With humor, they demonstrate sorting bathroom products and packaging—for example, plastic shower gel bottles go in the recycling bin, while mascara goes in the trash—helping viewers confirm their practices.
