Pakistani Artist Sara Shakeel Turns Stretch Marks into Dazzling Glitter Artworks

Women today are embracing their natural body beauty like never before. Social media influencers champion self-love by confidently sharing photos of their curves and so-called 'imperfections' like stretch marks. This powerful message gained massive traction in spring 2017 when rapper Kendrick Lamar featured curvaceous women with stretch marks in his Humble music video—now viewed over 360 million times. Pakistani collage artist Sara Shakeel took this inspiration further, transforming stretch marks—those common signs of lost skin elasticity that affect women of all shapes—into stunning art. Using photo editing software, she fills these marks with glittering effects like golden sequins, cosmic galaxies, and sparkling diamonds. Purely feminine and empowering!

Filling 'Imperfections' with Beauty

After leaving her final year of dental studies, Sara Shakeel taught herself Photoshop to combat her sadness and depression, as she shared with Cosmo US. The concept of turning female body 'flaws' into art quickly emerged: 'I remember when I started creating glittering stretch marks, I was very anxious about publishing them […] I am an artist in Pakistan—talking about stretch marks and turning them into art isn't common here.' The risk paid off. Her work helped her overcome personal insecurities, and she hopes it inspires others too: 'Each image heals a part of me, and I hope it heals a part of you too,' reads her Instagram bio. Sara has stretch marks from sudden weight loss and chose to fill them 'with something pretty.' Mission accomplished! She's expanding the series to celebrate cellulite next. We can't wait—bravo to this trailblazing artist!
