Acne strikes at any age, disrupting skin health and confidence. Mask-wearing during the pandemic worsened it, sparking stubborn pimples on the cheeks. When standard cleansing and moisturizing fall short, a viral TikTok remedy using hydrocolloid patches delivers real results. Creators apply them overnight, waking to clearer skin.
Hydrocolloid patches, designed to absorb wound fluids while forming a protective seal, work similarly on pimples. They extract excess oil and pus, turning white as they fill. TikTok users swear by overnight wear, peeling off in the morning for visible improvement. Dermatologist Marisa Garshick, featured on the Insider website, notes: "These patches shouldn't replace acne medications to prevent new breakouts, but they effectively reduce existing blemishes."
The oversized patches cover cheeks, chin, or forehead easily. But applying to clear skin risks irritation—trim them to target pimples only. They're ineffective against blackheads; opt for salicylic acid-infused patches to unclog pores instead.
Dermatologist Joshua Zeichner told Insider that while they offer little for whiteheads, hydrocolloid patches excel at drawing fluid from "red pimples" and cystic acne.
