Acne affects people of all ages, disrupting daily life and confidence. Months of mask-wearing have exacerbated cheek pimples for many. If standard skincare routines aren't cutting it, a TikTok sensation using hydrocolloid patches might be the breakthrough you've been waiting for. This platform's treasure trove of tips has delivered again, with users swearing by these patches for clearer skin overnight.
Hydrocolloid patches, originally designed to absorb wound fluids while forming a protective barrier, work similarly on pimples. They draw out oil and pus, turning white as they extract impurities. TikTokers recommend applying overnight and peeling off in the morning for visible results. According to dermatologist Marisa Garshick on the Insider website, "These bandages shouldn't replace acne medications for preventing breakouts, but they excel at reducing existing blemishes."
The patches' large size covers cheeks, chin, or forehead easily—but avoid placing them on clear skin to prevent irritation. Trim them to target only affected areas. They're ineffective against blackheads; opt for patches with salicylic acid to unclog pores instead.
Dermatologist Joshua Zeichner told Insider that while hydrocolloid patches offer limited help for whiteheads, they're excellent for extracting fluid from "red, inflamed pimples" or cystic acne.
