Confetti Hair: The Optical Illusion Coloring Technique from Blondies of Melbourne

A few weeks ago, we showcased the Hidden Rainbow Roots, a creative twist on the Hidden Rainbow trend where vibrant rainbow hues are concealed at the roots rather than the hair's underlayer. This innovative technique comes from Blondies salon in Melbourne, Australia, led by owner Karen Lewis, whose imagination continues to shine. Recently, she unveiled Confetti Hair—a unique, feminine, and fun coloring method that mimics an optical effect. It features subtle touches of pastel color scattered throughout the hair, described by the expert as "little dots of pure joy" for a festive yet understated result.

“Tiger” Streaks

Despite its intricate appearance, the process is straightforward. Start with a platinum blonde or very light blonde base. Apply thin, oblique stripes to each section (following this pattern: two lines of different colors, followed by an uncolored line of natural blonde). For instance, one section might get pink and blue, another pink and yellow. Temporary dyes like Manic Panic or Crazy Color work perfectly. "You can use any colors. Opt for candy-colored pastels for a subtle effect or bright colors for a more assertive look," Lewis shares with Cosmo US. Leave on for 20 minutes, then rinse with cold water to lock in the vibrancy. The result? A stunning kaleidoscopic mane!
