MC1R: The World's First Magazine Celebrating Redheads and Freckles

Freckles are capturing well-deserved attention lately. Building on the 2018 launch of vibrant red hair emojis, MC1R emerges as the world's first magazine devoted exclusively to redheads. Named for the MC1R gene that governs skin, hair, and eye pigmentation—and plays a pivotal role in freckles—this project was sparked by Tristan Rodgers, a 31-year-old redhead from Hamburg, Germany. It started as a photography collaboration with friends but quickly expanded. "After a few weeks I had interviewed and photographed more people than expected and gathered many interesting insights into being ginger… I then researched how much it would cost to print some copies of the work done in magazine form for people who have been part of this project," he told Metro.

“Redheads Share a Unique Bond”

A crowdfunding campaign drew strong interest and pre-orders from beyond the initial group. "Redheads are one of the world's smallest minorities, with a striking appearance that captivates everyone. They share a special bond, and it's this unique 'vibe' I aim to capture in the project," Rodgers shares. Inside, you'll find breathtaking portraits of redheads—models, families, and more—plus insightful articles like “Why Do I Have Freckles?” He envisions it empowering those facing bias: "Some redheads prefer to blend in, but this is a positive celebration. If it helps anyone embrace their look and build confidence, that's the goal."
