How to Repair Damaged Hair: Expert Tips from Professional Hairdresser Marisol

We consulted expert hairdresser Marisol to identify causes of bad hair days and share proven solutions for restoring softness and shine. Here's her professional advice:

Split Ends

Split ends commonly result from excessive blow-drying, flat irons, curling tongs, or other heat styling. For long hair, friction from clothing can also contribute.

The fix? No miracle cure—if severely damaged, "you have to cut," Marisol explains. Skip drastic 5 cm trims; she assesses the hair shaft precisely. "It may be minimal, but you'll feel the difference afterward."

Dry Hair

Hair may be naturally dry, but frequent products, coloring, and heat often dehydrate the fiber, leaving it rough.

Hydrate like skin: Apply oil before shampoo and serum daily. Essential for naturally dry hair, with maintenance every wash. On masks: "I haven't found truly hydrating ones—most provide surface shine but lack deep nourishment," says Marisol.

Frizz

Frizz stems from hair texture, often wavy fibers that resist styling.

Tame it with root serum, focusing on face-framing sections, applied just before blow-drying (earlier dilutes it; later misses the frizz).

Fading Color

Colors oxidize from air, UV rays opening cuticles and releasing pigments. City hard water worsens it (darks and reds fade fastest).

Lock in color via hydration: Leave-in post-shampoo oil excels. Add UV protection; repigmentation treatments revive between services.

Brittle Hair

Brittleness signals internal issues like fatigue, stress, low energy, or iron deficiency causing breakage.

"Strengthen internally with capsules," recommends Marisol—a 3-month course often resolves it (repeat seasonally if needed). Support with nutrition and relaxation.
