Our self-perception often falls short of how others truly see us. Dove's renowned Real Beauty Sketches experiment, featuring a former FBI forensic artist, demonstrates just how much more beautiful we are than we realize.
Dove commissioned the artist to create portraits of seven women based solely on their own descriptions—without ever seeing them. Then, strangers who had brief encounters with the same women provided their observations, inspiring second sketches.
Comparing the Portraits: Every self-described portrait turned out less flattering than the stranger-described versions. What's more, the stranger-based sketches showed striking similarities to the women's actual appearances.
