Brushing too aggressively can snap hair strands and ruin your flawless style. As trichologists recommend, follow these four proven rules for healthy brushing habits.
1. Brush from bottom to top
Start at the ends to gently detangle, working upward slowly to avoid pulling and breakage.
2. Avoid brushing wet hair
Wet strands are fragile and prone to snapping. Detangle in the shower with conditioner, then brush once fully dry for minimal damage.
3. Choose a brush with spaced-out bristles
Wide-spaced pins or teeth glide through hair easier. For stubborn tangles, use a detangling product first.
4. Clean your brush regularly
Wash it weekly with warm water and shampoo to remove oils, dirt, and residue that can harm your scalp and strands.
