Fleshy, fine, or luscious—lips come in all shapes and sizes. But is there a scientifically ideal mouth? Researchers from the University of California explored this in a study published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery. They presented 400 participants with photos of lips from women aged 18 to 25, rating them on a 1-10 scale. Participants then viewed modified images to pinpoint their preferred upper and lower lip sizes.
The results? Participants favored lips approximately 50% fuller than average, with the lower lip ideally twice as thick as the upper lip. For reference, the researchers highlighted the lips of models Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio as prime examples of this balanced, appealing look.
That said, beauty remains deeply subjective—true perfection is in the eye of the beholder!
