Effaclar Spotscan: La Roche-Posay's App for Accurate Acne Assessment and Personalized Care

Whether it's juvenile or adult acne, spots, or blackheads, skin imperfections affect people of all ages. Acne impacts 3.3 million individuals over 15, with 80% of adolescents and 40% of adults reporting psychological effects. Yet, one in three never consults a dermatologist. To raise awareness of these issues and guide effective management, La Roche-Posay collaborated with four dermatologists to develop the Effaclar Spotscan app. Simply take three clean-skin selfies (front, right profile, left profile), and it delivers a score out of 4. Scores above 2 recommend seeing a dermatologist. Beyond scoring, it identifies imperfection types (blackheads, pimples, or pigmentation marks), maps them on your skin, and suggests a tailored Effaclar routine.

Motivating Consistent Treatment

This app also encourages adherence to treatment—crucial since fewer than half follow dermatologist recommendations. It previews your skin's potential post-routine and tracks daily progress. As Professor Brigitte Dréno, Head of Dermatology at Nantes University Hospital, notes: "If Effaclar Spotscan helps patients witness their acne evolution and lesion reduction firsthand, it can motivate serious treatment adherence."

Launched April 1, 2019, and available via the dedicated site on mobile devices, Effaclar Spotscan empowers users to address imperfections and overcome skin-related complexes. Dermatologist-endorsed and user-focused, it's a game-changer.
