Water is a vital resource, yet access remains unequal—millions worldwide lack it. Global consumption is rising twice as fast as population growth, with UN projections warning that by 2025, two-thirds of people could face water stress. Preserving this precious resource demands rethinking daily habits, especially high-water activities like rinsing shampoo and shower gel. This reality prompted L'Oréal to act.
L'Oréal collaborated with Swiss environmental startup Gjosa to develop a low-flow showerhead. It slows the water flow while accelerating droplet velocity, enabling effective rinsing with up to five times less water. The reformulated shampoo now rinses clean using just 1.5 liters—versus the typical 8 liters—delivering a 70% savings, or 6.5 liters per wash. Imagine the impact across billions of daily shampoos. Currently, prototypes are being tested in U.S. and African hair salons, with plans for widespread rollout in professional settings. A commendable step forward.
