85% of Women Hate Shaving: Key Insights from a Recent U.S. Body Hair Survey

Women's beauty routines differ widely, but unwanted body hair remains a universal challenge across races and ethnicities. A recent U.S. study highlights that Hispanic and Latino women face more pronounced issues in areas like the upper lip (57% vs. 40% for whites and 33% for African Americans), hands (20% vs. 10% and 9%), and back (17% vs. 7% and 11%). The most common trouble spots overall are the bikini line (72%), forearms (58%), and legs (52%). Notably, 85% of women report hating shaving and seek better alternatives.

Many would sacrifice coffee (48%), Netflix (44%), or even sex (39%) for a month to eliminate unwanted body hair for a year—38% would forgo social media too. Shaving is criticized as time-consuming (56%), skin-irritating (44%), and ineffective due to rapid regrowth (72%). Half of women feel less confident or self-conscious because of it, with younger women (57%) affected more than older ones (48%).
